Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Lima, Peru!
Peru’s capital city of Lima is home to the best surviving relics and art of ancient Inca civilization, a highly spiritual and magical culture which persists in the gentle faces and manners of the people, their weavings of fine cotton and alpaca, and their crafting of pottery and precious metals, faithful to techniques handed down for thousands of years, enriched by Spanish influences beginning in the 16th century, but never supplanted by their conquerors. The native culture in Peru has survived for these millennia in its textiles, crafts and the domestication of the Andean camelid species, including the llama and alpaca, as beasts of burden and sources of wool, whereas the history of colonial Spain has survived more in the churches and architecture of Lima’s public buildings. A highly literate people, with most Lima and other coastal residents speaking Spanish as well as the native Quechua language, the residents of the Lake Titicaca area in the south speaking Aymara, and residents of the Amazon River basin speaking many additional local dialects, Peru always has been a rich contributor to South American arts and letters.
